Southeast Lower Peninsula
Lake Erie - Boat anglers were fishing out near the Banana Dyke for perch until strong winds pushed the ice back in and blocked the boat launch.

Huron River - Steelhead are being caught near the walk bridge at Flat Rock. Spawn and flies work best. Perch and bluegills can be found in the backwaters.

Detroit River - Some boat anglers were heading over to Crystal Bay and ice fishing while others were fishing the canals around Gibraltar. Walleye anglers are heading out but no reports have come in.

Lake St. Clair - Those fishing in Anchor Bay have caught jumbo perch.

St. Clair River - All the ice coming down the river is keeping the boats on shore. Those fishing off the wall at Port Huron have caught steelhead on bodybaits. The suckers are in at Mill Creek.

Saginaw Bay - Anglers thinking about going out on the Bay need to use EXTREME CAUTION!! There are many active pressure cracks and the ice near shore is getting soft. Anglers trying to fish out near Channel Island, otherwise known as Spoils Island which is off the mouth of the Saginaw River, have gone through the ice. This area should be avoided. Perch fishing continues to build off Pine River Road and Palmer Road. Good walleye fishing in the evening off Linwood and Erickson Road, when fishing in 17 to 21 feet of water. Other good locations were Callahan Road, Tietz Drain and Thomas Road. Perch fishing has picked up off Geiger Road and at Mud Creek with 8 to 11 inch fish being caught. Early mornings are best for perch.


Southwest Lower Peninsula
St. Joe - Those fishing off the pier have caught coho, steelhead and whitefish. All of the fish caught were taken on the river side of the pier with the end of the South Pier producing the most. There was still a fair amount of broken ice drifting in front of the piers and the north side was still packed in with drift ice.

St. Joe River - Steelhead are being caught below Berrien Springs.

Kalamazoo River - Steelhead are being caught in the lower stretch when floating spawn bags or Wobble Glo's. Boat anglers are back trolling with Hot-n-Tots up near the Allegan Dam.

Grand River at Grand Rapids - Water levels are elevated however boat and shore anglers are catching steelhead on spawn sacks with a piece of yarn tied above the hook. Some limit catches were reported.

Grand River at Lansing - No reports from Lansing but closer to Ionia, steelhead are still being caught in Prairie Creek.

Morrison Lake - Ice anglers were still taking good numbers of crappie at night. Caution needs to be used on this last ice of the season.

Mona Lake - A few suckers were taken near the mouth of Black Creek.

Muskegon - Steelhead have been caught off the piers. The better fishing is on the outside of the piers however strong winds have blown ice into this area, so anglers are fishing the waters inside the piers.

Muskegon River - Anglers fishing above Bridgeton have caught some steelhead.

White Lake - Still has good bluegill action when fishing tear drops with spikes around the marinas. Those seeking crappie are using spikes during the day and switching over to minnows at last light.

White River - A few suckers were caught near the mouth.


Northeast Lower Peninsula
Grand Lake - Still had good ice as of this report. Fishing pressure has been light with the closing of pike and walleye season. Those looking for yellow perch might want to try fishing around Grand Island.

Long Lake - Still has ice, but few anglers.

Hubbard Lake - The perch are hitting on spikes and minnows.

Van Etten Lake - Still has ice and the perch fishing has been very good.

McCollum Lake - Near the town of Curran is producing some nice bluegills.

Lake Margrethe - Fishing is still in the winter mode with moderate catches of perch.

Au Sable River - Steelhead are being caught in the upper stretches. No reports yet of any fresh fish in the river.

Tawas - Perch fishing has improved, with fair to good catches of 6 to 8 inch fish caught in 12 to 20 feet of water. The best walleye fishing has been in the evening in 12 to 20 feet of water. A few brown trout were caught near the pier.

Au Gres - Walleye fishing continues to be good in 6 to 30 feet of water.

Higgins Lake - Still has ice, and very little snow on the lake. Perch are being caught off the bottom in 15 to 30 feet of water out near the Main Island and the Sunken Island. Anglers are still going out to 100 feet of water for lake trout and whitefish. Smelt fishing was fair over near Big Creek and spotty up near the North State Park.

Houghton Lake - Anglers might well be ice fishing for another two weeks. The bluegills are finally starting to bite with some nice fish caught in the weedbeds along the south shore. Perch and crappie were spotty.


Northwest Lower Peninsula
Elk Lake - Ice anglers are still persuing lake trout and whitefish.

Arbutus Lake - In Grand Traverse County is producing bluegills and crappie.

Manistee Lake - Near Kalkaska reports perch and crappie being caught.

Traverse City - Anglers are still ice fishing for lake trout and whitefish off Deepwater Point in the East Bay. Perch are the target in Suttons Bay in 35 to 40 feet of water.

Boardman River - Anglers putting in the time are taking some steelhead.

Long Lake - Is still producing perch off Long Island, Picnic Island and Taylor Park.

Big Glen Lake - Has fair to good perch fishing.

Manistee River - Steelhead fishing is still in a winter-type pattern because of the cooler weather. Some fish have been caught up near Tippy Dam but warmer weather is needed to push more fish.

Lake Cadillac - Ice anglers are still going out. With pike and walleye closed now, panfish are getting all the attention. There were reports of some nice crappie and perch caught.

Lake Mitchell - Ice anglers are seeking panfish. Look for crappie in the coves.

Hamlin Lake - The bluegill action has started to pick up.

Pere Marquette Lake - Still has ice and some nice perch being caught.

Pere Marquette River - Steelhead are being caught near Scottville.


Upper Peninsula
Keweenaw Bay - Fair lake trout fishing in 130 to 260 feet of water when using jigs with cut bait. Best areas were out from Carla's Restaurant, the Whirl-I-Gig, Old Mission and Jentoff's Dock. Those fishing for herring did well out from the tire shop on US-41 when fishing 8 to 10 feet down in 30 to 50 feet of water. A couple anglers did well on coho in 40 feet of water across from Old Mission. Smelt have been caught at night at the head of the Bay and between the Baraga Marina and Sand Point.

Marquette - Angler participation has been low. A few coho were caught near the bubblers off the mouth of the Dead River. The coal dock has finally opened up. Anglers are starting to fish the lower harbor breakwall with little success.

Little Bay De Noc - Ice conditions remain favorable except for some areas along the edge. The launch at Kipling seems to be the worst. Whitefish were caught off Sand Point when jigging spawn in 80 feet of water. Perch anglers have seen lots of fish but the bite was slow. The best reports came from out by Brach's Cabins when jigging wigglers in 11 feet of water. All shanties must be off the ice by midnight, March 31st or earlier if ice conditions become unsafe.

Au Train - Not much angler activity at the boat launch or the mouth of the Au Train River. The ice was holding near the mouth of the Rock River. Coho and steelhead were caught in 10 to 25 feet of water when using spawn or jigging artificial lures.

Munising - The number of whitefish taken has not only dropped but the fish are running small. The bigger fish seem to come from the deeper waters near Powell's Point. Good numbers of coho were reported in Trout Bay but the ice out there needs to be monitored carefully, especially on windy days. Splake were caught in 45 feet of water when using spawn or artificial lures and the burbot are still hitting. No perch or smelt action to report.

Pendill's Bay - Anglers fishing the waters of Lake Superior have caught some whitefish along with the occasional coho near the mouth of Pendill's Creek.

St. Mary's River - Slow perch fishing in Munuscong, Raber and Fowler's Bay.

Cedarville and Hessel - Not much to report except for a few anglers perch fishing in 10 to 14 feet of water. Try wigglers or wax worms.
