i noticed in a post that you were heading up to the b.w.c.a in september. is this a good time to go? is the fishing still good up there? are you planning to camp? is there any special considerations for a fall trip vs a spring trip?

I would say that anytime is a good time to go. I just got back yesterday and had a great trip. Fishing wasn't the best, but we still had all one could eat. I guess the smallies were biting good, but we weren't targeting them as they can almost always easily be caught in the BWCA.

Weather was perfect with no bugs or hot weather. We camped the whole time we were in. If this isnt your thing you can always stay at a cabin and do day trips. Weather for fall and spring trips can be pretty much the same. The weather can go from 80 degrees to freezing in a huring, so it is a good idea to pack some fleece along with a waterproof shell.

If you go in after October 1st there is no reservation needed.

I just returned from the Grand Marias area and talked with a group that had just came out of the BWCA
They reported catching LOTS of smallies - more than enough walleye and a few northerns. The biggest topic for them was the Moose - they said they saw 2 or more each day! Wish I had time to run!

I would like to try winter camping in the BWCA - got any tips Hogeye?

Never been winter caping in the BWCA or really anywhere for that matter. Most of my spare time is spent ice fishing in the winter. I didn't see any moose on my recent trip. Had a few otters and beaver hanging around camp though.
