Hi Hogeye, My friends and I are planning a fishing trip to the boundry waters for the first time. I have been told that the biggest mistake, for novices like us, is to bring too much gear or the wrong gear. Do you have a checklist or some advice on what we should bring and what we can expect when we get there? |

Fishfinder, Good to hear that you're heading to the BWCA! For starters,I believe that it is important to make every member responsible for something. It is even good to make the younger members in charge of something This will really make them feel important. Also, if one person is responsible for everything they will end up overburdened and likely the jerk telling everyone what to do. Ok, maybe not that bad but get the point? To help accomplish this "balance", get a good list distributed to everyone in the party. Check out these two links for a couple lists which I use: Click Here or Click Here Between these two sites; everything should be covered. When you get to your entry point, have everyone empty their bags and take out everything that the party doesn't need and put it back into the vehicle. After this is done, repack remaining gear while distributing evenly beween party members, canoes etc. If someone has to bring something that isn't neccesary they should carry it themselves. After all the ducks are in a row; have fun, catch fish, and relax. Remeber to take lots of good photos too (Check out my photo article)! I hope this helps to start off your trip on the right foot . Good luck. Oh Yeah, keep a good journal while your up there too! |
