Happy holidays to everyone on justnorth. Has anyone been on Mille lacs? What are the ice conditions and how is the walleye bite?

Just got a report - ice is OK for wheeler/snowmachine - there are some roads open in the north end. Call resorts 1st if you plan on driving out as there are just a couple allowing this!

The bite is VERY good - 18-22 feet neat rocks, gravel is the key! Glow jig and fat heads!

Good luck!!!

Mille Lacs East - Ice conditions continue to improve in the bays and perch remain an option in 12-16 feet of water. Ice depths are more varied on the main lake, but ATV traffic has started. Some resorts have roads staked, but walleye reports have been limited. Look to the Graveyard, Malone Island, The Boot, and Banana Flat for the best walleye results.

Mille Lacs West - Look for walleyes along the 18-22-foot break of St. Alban's Bay. Brown's Point and Seguchie Point are kicking out perch in 20-28 feet. Snowmobiles are traveling to the flats and some walleye action is reported in 22-28 feet on the Seven and Eight Mile flats. Ice depths vary from 5-0 inches on this end and snowmobiles are a better option than ATVs due to the slush.

I am heading to the south end tommorow and have a sleaper with Brandts. I will post results upon our return, however; my hopes are not high with the large perch hatch this year.

Things were slow as I feared. We did get 1 25" eye and two that were 14" though in 20 hours of fishing Fished on the south end on a small 22' hump on gravel and rocks. Brandts house were old and simple, but did the job.
