Subject: 1st solo trip with my canoe to Sawbill Trail area-HELP!

I am so glad to have found this site! I have been camping, hiking, fishing in the BWCA and North Shore area for 10 yrs and canoeing for 3. This will be my first trip with my canoe, solo. It is a heavy canoe and I can not get it atop my truck unassisted. Is there a "winch-type" device I can build or buy? I'm not portaging so I can put it in the water as long as I can navigate the load and unload. I have been trying to figure out a way to take my canoe with me. P.S. Our team was just laid off so I really shouldn't think about buying a lightweight canoe as they are pretty spendy. I have a Chevy shortbed single-cab truck. My gear is stowed under the tonneau cover and the canoe is usually on top the cab. I'd also like to know if there is a safe way to find a camping, hiking, canoeing partner for my trips up North. if you can back your truck under a tree -sling a rope over the branch and pulley one end of the canoe up over the back of the pick up- then you can back under the canoe slowly and the vehicle will haul the canoe up top for you......if you use an old rug it will slide skid up easily......to unload.......just lower one end at a time.......you can winch it up top by attaching a simple block and tackle to the front bumper and crank it up until it fulcrums over........just release it slowly to come back down.......

one more thing- sawbill trail lodge and sawbill lake is busy entry point........there is always someone who will help.........
