Can't see the forest for the trees? Sometimes we get so entrenched in our daily lives we miss the obvious.
As the title says, it is easy to miss things you are not looking for.
Here is an example:

Wow, what an interesting way to make a point! I'm a cyclist myself, and I bike VERY defensively. I stay over to the right side of the road, but there the dangers in town are the parked drivers who suddenly open their doors without looking to see if anyone's coming. I keep a close eye on parked cars. In the larger context, it reminds me of an amateur photographer friend of mine who gets in the car and heads to the country looking for a specific sucject to shoot, and has such tunnel vision that if he doesn't find that particular thing, he comes home saying there was "nothing." I can only imagine the opportunities he missed. Monica |

Hey Monica I bike ride when I can - I am wondering - do you ride against traffic or with it? I have been told that you should ride against traffic so you can see the cars before they run you over?? HeHeHe |

Oh heck, I like to be surprised. ;-) I ride with the traffic, and that may even be law. Bikers are supposed to use turn signals, and they wouldn't work if you going opposite to the traffic. I do stay to one side in town so that cars can drive past me, but if I'm approaching a stop light, and I want to go straight through, I get in the through lane so I'm not in someone's way in the right-turn lane. Mostly I try to do whatever is courteous. I don't ride on the highway because of leery of the draft from semis, and of the thrown stones. I do ride on the Scenic Route between Two Harbors and Duluth, though. Last year, because of a couple injuries, I didn't do much biking, but this year I intend to be back on the Gitichi Gami Trail. Great fun early in the morning! I love to arrive at Split Rock just after sunrise, when not a single other soul is around. Monica |

| I am out in the country with no turns - we ride against traffic and when a semi is coming - just hold on! We have a really beautiful bike trail in Crosby that go's along the mine pits - they are now full of rainbow, brook and brown trout! - the mine pits also serve as home for RandyMans annual " Opener with RandyMan" party! Coming soon!!!! |

That's a pretty interesting video. My wife tells me that this condition of not being able to see something you aren't looking for is genetic flaw and that all men have it! I listened to her describe it...but I failed to see the point : ) Heard you nothern Minnesota guys had another good shot of winter this last week. Reguardless, open water is at the door and prime spring fishing is just a breath away. I have gottten out muskie fishing a few times so far. Water and season is open here now...just really interesting fishing in the forest as we had the rainiest March even on record and the rainiest first week of April... the ole fishin hole is flooded into the pastures! But fishing at the edges of the flood plain does give you lots of visible structure to focus on! Take care and have a grerat weekend guys, Jason |

I think your wife is correct - I know for me, when I can not find something it ends up being right in front of me!! Babes has gotten to the point were she doesn't even try to help me find things - just keeps saying "look in front of you!" WOW is all I have to say about this winter! Over the past 4 years I have been fishing open water by now. This year good old mother nature has been testing me!!! I had a little over 20 inches 2 weekends ago then this last friday we got an additional 20+ inches. This last storm was no fun!! I had to drive down to catch a plane and it was no fun at all - counted 22 cars/pickups in the ditch and watched a 18 wheeler go in, come out and then go right back in. I am sure he was going to have to clean his jeans! I know I speak for many when I say - mother nature can cut this out NOW!!! Open water can not come soon enough! |

I know this last storm was bad if you had to be out in it, and I did think about people who were driving or flying or whatever. But, it sure was fun if you didn't have to go anywhere. Just hunker down in the house, where the windows were all covered with snow, sort of like being in a cave. I didn't do a single constructive thing that day. Just read, played on the computer, did some baking (which is more fun that constructive for me) and finally got down to the lake to take photos of some really awesome wave action. If Mother Nature is going to throw fits, you might as well try to enjoy it.
I admit I'm ready for spring, though. You guys want to go fishing; I want to get out in the woods with my camera and photograph some growing things! Soon for all of us, eh?
