I urge you to blow the rust off winter and get out and enjoy. You don't have to have a spring turkey license, but if you do the season starts April 12 and runs through May 18 so there’s plenty of opportunity to call in a wild turkey...

I wasn’t in a me, myself and I mode. But I was not expecting company either. Not one other boat on the lake. Gulls flew and I saw the occasional crow. Mrs. Mallard had her babies out for a swim. My stringer was half full, so was my growling stomach...

The reason for this peculiar behavior – a disjointed wing – then became more apparent. It struggled with a few flaps of its wings and pushes from its feet, from fence, to swing set and then onto the top of a garage...

After I fixed the bear damaged bird feeder I filled it with a mixed bird seed. My intent is to feed the birds. The feeder sits empty all summer. I typically don’t reload until I think yogi is in for his long winter nap. The bears, when they wander through my yard with there super sniffers probe, then with more power than I can imagine, snap off the feeder or break the post hosting my feeder. I’m just trying to feed some birds...

Above my head is a five gallon pail swinging from a deer gambrel. The pail should be full of deer tallow saved from the November deer season. My daughter and I slice off the creamy fat in long thick chunks, and...

Surprising as it may seem, few young birds need human intervention in order to survive. In many cases, the most successful strategy is to leave young birds alone. However, if they appear ill or...

The film, from Warner Video and National Geographic, is narrated by Morgan Freeman and follows the breeding migration of emperor penguins. A migration of 70 miles might not seem like much compared to birds that fly thousands of miles, but these penguins waddle those 70 miles across quite possibly the worst terrain on the darkest, driest and windiest continent. Oh, and it’s the coldest, too, averaging a frigid 58 below zero...

Bird watching is a hobby which involves watching and tracking birds for pleasure or fun. The official term for this hobby is ornithology, although it is more commonly known as bird watching, or birding, depending on your location. However, I am lead to believe that there is more to this distinction than just geography...

Because visual observation of birds is complemented with auditory observation, the term "birding" is more accurate. Birding is the second most popular outdoor activity in America, second only to gardening as the number-one recreation...

Late summer and early fall large numbers of loons were recently spotted gathering on a number of lakes. However, they were not feeding and not fighting; they appeared to be partying. Why is this? Is this part of the fall migration?
