What do jackalopes have in common with cervical cancer?
By Vicki Davis :: 2228 Views :: 0 Comments ::Article Rating :: Pet Talk with Vicki Davis

Rabit infected with papilloma virusThis wild rabbit does not have horns, big whiskers or dread locks. It is infected with papilloma virus. Infection with papilloma virus causes rabbits to sprout horn-like growths. Some have it mild, some severe. Some can live and reproduce with it, some die from it. To our knowledge, it is not treatable. Even though it is NOT LIKELY that anyone else (human or pets) would get it, it is a papilloma virus (related to cancer-type viruses) and supposedly can mutate.

If you see a rabbit with growths like this, call your vet for more advice or information and try to keep other pets from coming in contact. Sick (sluggish or dying) rabbits should come to the attention of animal control and be picked up or disposed of.

Enjoy your pets,
Vicki Davis
