Fire activity throughout the state has been brisk for the past week. There were multiple dispatches Friday for aircraft. In spite of thunderstorms over night that produced rain in parts of MN, grass and other light fuels will dry quickly and remain a significant threat until things "green up", usually not until the end of May or early June...

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is announcing a temporary fishing closure on three major tributaries to the Red Lakes to protect spawning walleyes. The Tamarac River from Upper Red Lake to the Beltrami-Koochiching County line, and Shotley Brook from Upper Red Lake upstream to State Highway 72, and the Blackduck River from County Road 32 downstream to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa reservation boundary line will be closed during this period...

New consumption advisories were issued today by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for fish caught in Lake of the Isles, Calhoun, Harriet, Brownie and Cedar lakes, and in the Mississippi River downstream of Minneapolis. While finding any contaminants in our fish should be of concern, the new findings should not be cause for undue alarm among anglers, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR)...
