Anglers who visit Leech Lake this winter should see signs of the walleye population's recovery. The Department of Natural Resources reports that young walleye and yellow perch populations are abundant. This information is based on summer and late fall test nettings that suggest the 2006 walleye year class may be comparable to the 2005 year class, which produced the fourth-highest trawl catch rate on record.
